Microinverters

What is a ‘Microinverter’?

A Microinverter (about the size of an A5 piece of paper) is installed on the back of, or beside each solar panel. Meaning that usually, the number of solar panels = the number of Microinverters needed. Microinverters are usually used for more complex installations, where there may be partial shading, tilted panels at various angles and/or panels facing multiple directions.

What makes Microinverters different from string inverters, is that because each solar panels is connected to its own Microinverter if one panel isn’t performing well, it does not affect the performance of other panels in the system. This means that in theory, the system will be more efficient and able to generate more electricity, in situations when part of the system may be shaded or something is blocking the sun from the panels (debris, leaves, dirt etc). Microinverters also allow you to individually monitor the panels. This can make troubleshooting, servicing and maintenance quick and easy. Microinverters also produce a much lower voltage than a system with a string inverter. This means that the risk of overheating and potentially starting a fire is greatly reduced.

Product Information

The Enphase IQ7A microinverter is an intelligent, high-performing inverter that is installed beneath each solar panel. Suitable for both residential and commercial applications, the Enphase microinverter is a reliable solution for more complex installations. They can be installed with high powered 60-cell/120 half-cell and 72-cell/144 half-cell solar panels.

  • Reliable: The IQ7A had gone through more than a million hours of testing
  • High Power: Peak output power 366 VA
  • Safer: Simple all-AC installation and built-in rapid shutdown compliant
  • Quick install: A study commissioned by Enphase in September 2015 found that SolarEdge took 47% longer to install and SMA took 68% longer to install
  • Warranty: 10 years
  • IP67: Built to withstand the harsh Queensland sun

Enphase Monitoring

Enphase Enlighten

One of the benefits of installing Enphase Microinverters is being able to monitor the system through the Enphse Enlighten website. On your dashboard, you are able to see the system’s status, the energy output and consumption of the entire system (kWh), the AC voltage as well as how much energy each solar panel is producing.

If something were to go wrong, the Enphase Enlighten monitoring lets the installer pinpoint the issue from wherever they are, and often resolve it remotely. Or if not, arrive at the site knowing exactly what to look for. This can save a lot of time and money!
